Frequently Asked Questions

What is a car buyers agent?

** THIS IS WHAT WE DO ** A car buyers agent is someone who will work on your behalf to find the best possible deal for a new, used, or leased vehicle. The agent will perform a large area search and work with dealers to negotiate the best price, features, financing, and delivery.

Why would I use a car buyers agent?

If you have difficulty making big decisions, if you have time limitations, if you are intimidated by car dealerships and/or if you want to save as much money as possible, a car buyers agent is a great option for you.

What is a car buying service?

** This is a different service and NOT what we provide ** Car buying services can be free or paid nationwide online vehicle search and purchase websites. Free services include USAA, Costco and TrueCar and they will recommend a best price based on their analytics. Paid services will get a substantially better price than the free services and should handle all the logistics on your behalf also.

What is a car broker?

** Also something we do NOT do ** A car broker is someone who gets paid by both a client and a dealership to help facilitate a vehicle purchase. Generally a car broker needs to have a dealer’s license and does not exclusively represent the buyer.

How can I save money buying a new, used or leased vehicle?

A car buyers agent will make sure that you save as much money as possible when making a purchase. A car buyers agent understands the in’s and out’s of the car business and knows how to negotiate with dealers. Negotiating isn’t always about price. It’s about facilitating the transaction, saving you time and headaches.

How do I get the best deal on my next vehicle?

There are two steps to get the best deal on your next vehicle. First, know what you want. Use Google to find what you are looking for. Familiarize yourself with the type of car/truck/van that will work best for your situation (including normal price ranges). Second, contact us and ask for help in finding you the best possible deal.

Is it better to lease or to buy a vehicle?

In general, we believe that If you plan to keep your vehicle a long time, it is better to buy it. If you prefer to always have your vehicle under warranty and like the latest technology, then it is better to lease.

How do I ship a vehicle I purchased out of state?

When you use us, we have access to reliable auto transport companies who will handle the shipment of a vehicle purchased out of state. Though this is not free, vehicles can be safely shipped all over the continental US at a reasonable price.

Why should I use AutoBuyAssist when there are superb online resources and free car buying services?

Although these sites and services provide solid suggestions, they are not comprehensive enough to get into all of the "hidden" ways that dealerships make their profits. Our buying professionals have already seen ALL of the "back room tricks" that dealerships use and we don't leave it to you to figure out. We do it for you!

We offer a 100% No-Risk Guarantee. If we can't save you real money (AFTER our fees) on your vehicle purchase, we'll cheerfully refund your deposit and you'll owe us nothing.

What if I've worked with a salesperson in the past and want to work with that same person again?

Great question! We collect prices, and because you want to work at a specific dealership and/or with a specific salesperson, we allow them to match the deal from other dealerships. We recently saved a client over $3,750 vs his salesperson's initial offer for a loaded one-ton pickup truck, and he got to work with his preferred salesperson. Win, win, win with AutoBuyAssist!

You are located in Iowa, but I have a friend that lives in North Carolina. Can you help them?

While we are based in Iowa, our strategies work across the entire United States. We can help clients no matter where they live. We have regular and repeat customers all over the United States, even in Alaska! AutoBuyAssist services are not limited to one dealership or any given location and because we have access to reliable auto transport companies, we can affordably get vehicles delivered across country too. And still save our clients BIG TIME money.

Is it true that I can get the best deal if I contact the dealership's internet dept?

While the internet department generally offers more competitive up-front pricing than you might get when you walk in the main sales door, they are still oriented to maximize profit for the dealership. In addition, many internet departments are still instructed to "bring the client in the door!" which is not the short cut our clients are looking for. Once customers are "in the door", the professional sellers at the dealership gain a high degree of control that allows them to maximize their profit.
